Vision

Our vision is to be a model Muslim community with which Allah (God) is pleased.

Who We Are

Husaynia Islamic Society of Seattle is a Shia Muslim community center rooted in the timeless message of Imam Husayn (AS) — a message of justice, compassion, and standing for truth in the face of adversity. Founded by Zahra Abidi, Husaynia was established with the conviction that this message must not remain confined to rituals and commemorations alone, but must be strategically implemented to address the real challenges facing Muslims living in Western society.

Husaynia is determined to go beyond ritual observance to become a vibrant hub where faith meets action. We are building an interfaith community where people come together to share and discuss ideas, collaborate on projects they are passionate about, and contribute meaningfully to the society around them. Whether through educational programs, social services, or community gatherings, our goal is to embody the principles of Imam Husayn (AS) in everything we do.

“Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”

Husaynia Islamic Society of Seattle is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Every program we run and every initiative we undertake is made possible by the generosity of our community members and supporters who believe in our shared vision of building a model Muslim community in the Pacific Northwest.

Core Values

Excellence

Excellence means pleasing Allah by providing services above people's expectation, delivering service with speed, treating people (staff, volunteers, members and stakeholders in general) with the utmost respect, running an efficient administration with up-to-date management systems and technology and well-trained staff, and promptly conducting beneficial programs that are well thought out and well prepared for, and maintaining facilities and grounds to the highest standard of functionality, cleanliness, and physical appearance.

Integrity

As an Islamic organization, to Husaynia integrity means adherence to Islamic ethics and principles, which include fairness, honesty, delivering on promises, and matching words and beliefs with deeds and actions. Integrity is achieved when serious thought is given to the question “what is the right thing to do,” which must be asked and answered by all levels of the organization while referring back to sound Board policies and well-designed administrative procedures, and by means of consultation within the organization, and by considering stakeholders' input and feedback.

Transparency

Transparency generally implies openness, communication, and accountability. It is a metaphorical extension of the meaning that a “transparent” object is one that can be seen through. Transparent procedures include open meetings, financial disclosure statements, freedom of information, budgetary review and audits, etc.
